SharePoint - External Content and Data Words


The following are SharePoint Dictionary Words of the Day Related to External Content and Data:

External content type

Reusable collection of metadata which defines a set of data from one or more external data sources. It also includes the operations available on that data, and connectivity information related to that data.



External content type layout

Microsoft Office External Data Parts utilized in a one-dimensional or two-dimensional way to display information to a user.  

  

External data

Data stored in a repository outside of the system which it is being displayed in.



External data column

Single field in an item associated with an external content type.



External data grid

Web Part which displays a list of external items from a business application. For example, one can utilize a Business Data List Web Part to display customers or orders from a database.



External data item

A single item which is part of an external list.



External data part

Control which shows details of a single item or a list of items which belong to an external content type.



External data related list

Displays a list of related external items that are from a business application. For example, one can use a Business Data Related List Web Part to display all the orders for a particular customer from a database.



External item content control

External data from a data column in a document library which is available as a content control. The data that is exposed in content controls is read-only.



External list

A list of items which are part of an external content type.



External reference

Reference to a cell, range, defined name, or other object in a worksheet or workbook.



External system

Supported source of data which can be modeled by business connectivity services, such as via a database, web service, or a custom .NET framework assembly.



External workbook

Workbook, other than the active workbook, which is on disk or in memory which has a dependency to another workbook.

SharePoint - Entity Words

The following are SharePoint Dictionary Words of the Day Related to Entity:


Entity

Data class that represents a type of business data object which is stored in a line-of-business (LOB) system whose instances have a persistent EntityInstanceId.



EntityInstance

Set of values which have a unique identity that represent an instance of an entity. They are stored in a line-of-business (LOB) system.



EntityInstanceId

Set of field values of an EntityInstance which collectively identify an EntityInstance in a line-of-business (LOB) system.

SharePoint - Document Words

The following are SharePoint Dictionary Words of the Day Related to Documents:

Document center

A document library template which is configured to contain a large quantity of documents with each document uploaded to the center assigned a unique identifier number.



Document library

A list where documents and folders are stored. The document library has customized settings above and beyond a folder such as advanced settings, versioning settings, workflow settings, and information policies.



Document set

Allow for a collection of related documents, and have them displayed as one unit. Example, one may have a collection of project management template documents which would include - a requirements document, a project plan and a status report document, etc. These would be stored as the Project Management Templates document set.



Document workspace

Document repository which lets users collaborate on one or more documents.



Document workspace site

SharePoint site which is based on a document workspace site template. It is used for planning and posting about a document or a set of related documents.

SharePoint - Deployment Words


The following are SharePoint Dictionary Words of the Day Related to Deployment:

Deployment package

A collection of files which makes up a package that gets deployed. XML files are utilized to describe the deployment objects and their relationships. Sometimes, the deployment set of files are compressed into one or more files.



  

Deployment system object

An object which is created as part of a site or site collection. Examples are root folders, catalogs, default pages, and galleries which are created during site or site collection creation. Note, this deployment system object is not part of the underlying template.

SharePoint - Declarative workflow

The following is a SharePoint Dictionary Word of the Day:

Declarative workflow

Workflow which is created with XAML (Extensible Application Markup Language) files. It does not require any form of precompiled code in order to run.

SharePoint Time


As a SharePoint evangelist one needs to be mindful of the following:



SharePoint Growth – One has to mindful that as more users and information expands into SharePoint, the environment needs to accommodate such growth.



New Initiatives – Keep-up on new features and functionality to turn on, document and educate on.



Responding to Challenges – Work on finding the best technology to solve the right problem.



Advice – Have documentation on what tool to utilize and provide quick guides on the best use of those tools. Example: MS-Forms for surveys, Power Automate for workflow and PowerBI for analytics display, etc.

SharePoint/Office 365 Personal Growth

When working in SharePoint/Office 365 its important to keep your value via the following:



Personal Growth – Always continue to learn something new to maximize your SharePoint/Office 365 skills.



Inner Circle – Spend time with some key technology individuals either face to face or virtually via seminars, over coffee or via social media posts.
